Former Democratic Party leader Song Young-gil raised his voice, saying that "a backlash will sweep through next year's general election" following the dismissal of the impeachment motion against Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min by the Constitutional Court on the 25th.
On the 26th, Song said on his social media (SNS), "Seeing the ruling party and government acting as if they have been absolved of responsibility for the failure to respond to the disaster after the impeachment was dismissed, I am once again reminded that the public's anger is reaching a boiling point."
He stated, "After witnessing the senseless sacrifice of 159 young people, the minister in charge of safety, including police and fire services, should have been immediately dismissed. That is responsible politics," adding, "The Democratic Party filed the impeachment because the president failed to do his job. A ruling party with even minimal common sense should have immediately requested the dismissal."
Song added, "The backlash from the dismissal of Minister Lee's impeachment will surge in next year's general election as a judgment against the Yoon Seok-yeol administration and the People Power Party, which has lost its antennae and acts as the Yeouido branch office of the Yongwadae (Blue House)." He said, "I deeply feel the lament and anger of the families of the victims who buried their children in their hearts."
Earlier, Song had filed a complaint with the prosecution against President Yoon Seok-yeol for violations of the Public Official Election Act and the Political Parties Act, among other charges, after Yoon denied allegations related to his mother-in-law during the last presidential election.
