Father accidentally locks keys and baby in car
Interior temperature rises 20 degrees in 10 minutes... Caution advised
A video showing a man breaking the front window of a car to rescue a newborn trapped inside during a heatwave exceeding 37 degrees Celsius has become a hot topic online.
According to the New York Post and others on the 24th (local time), a baby trapped inside a car in the scorching heat was rescued in a shopping mall parking lot in Harlingen, Texas, USA.
The video released by a witness at the time showed two men taking turns breaking the car's front window with a metal rod. After a space was created in the front window, the baby was seen coming out through the gap.
The witness said, "A woman approached the baby through the broken glass and handed the baby outside, but that part was not filmed."
One of the men who broke the glass with the rod was identified as the baby's father. It is reported that the child's father accidentally locked the car keys inside the car with the baby and realized something was wrong after hearing the baby's cries.
At the time, Texas was experiencing a heatwave with temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37 degrees Celsius), but fortunately, the baby's health was reported to be normal.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) warned that the temperature inside a vehicle can rise by more than 20 degrees within 10 minutes. Especially, since children's body temperature rises 3 to 5 times faster than adults, they can easily suffer from heatstroke, so caution is necessary.
NHTSA urged never to leave children alone in a car, even if the windows are down or the air conditioning is on, and to immediately rescue or report if a child is seen trapped alone in a vehicle.
