Providing Audio Description, Korean Subtitles, and Sign Language Interpretation
Presenting Four Plays Including 'Ppallaebang: Ssapsori'
Arko·Daehangno Arts Theater (Theater Director Kang Ryang-won, hereinafter referred to as Arts Theater) will present five accessibility performances considering various senses from August 5 to September 17.
Since 2021, the Arts Theater has been attempting to produce accessibility performances tailored to the characteristics of works through collaboration between the theater and the arts field. Aiming to develop artist-centered accessibility languages, it has produced 11 plays and dance accessibility performances featuring audio description, Korean subtitles, sign language interpretation, and touch tours.
The 2023 Arts Theater accessibility performances include ▲ Choreographer Lee Gayoung's BBallaebang: Ssapsori (8.5~6), ▲ Theater Company Sinjakro, directed by Lee Youngseok, Saebbalgan Speedo (8.11~8.20), ▲ Arko·Daehangno Arts Theater's 2023 Spring Writers, Winter Stage Reading Performance (8.16~8.20), ▲ Yeogineun Dangyeonhi, Theater, directed by Koo Jahye, Grotowski Training (8.26~9.3), and ▲ Theater Company Y, directed by Kang Yoonji, Oreumakgil-ui Peace Mansion (9.8~9.17).
Choreographer Lee Gayoung's BBallaebang: Ssapsori will be accompanied by audio description as well as tactile cards and an experiential exhibition. The movement language of the dancers is expressed through touch, allowing the audience to experience the flow of the work through another sense. The tactile cards were inspired by tactile books for visually impaired children and depict the stage and key scenes of this work through illustrations by artist Eomji, produced to be sensed tactilely. The tactile exhibition, available in the theater lobby from one hour before the performance starts, allows participants to follow the flow and space of the work with their fingertips.
All four subsequent plays provide subtitle explanations and can be enjoyed with sign language interpretation or audio description depending on the work.
Tickets can be purchased without booking fees through the Arko·Daehangno Arts Theater website and customer support center.
