A marathon festival will take place in the heart of Seoul’s Gangseo-gu.

The district announced that it will hold the ‘2023 Gangseo Heojun Health Marathon’ on October 14 and is now accepting pre-registrations.

This event was planned for the first time to promote the ‘21st Heojun Festival,’ a regional representative festival returning after 4 years, as well as to nationally showcase the district’s cultural and tourism resources.

The marathon will feature three courses?5km, 10km, and half marathon (21km)?to meet the diverse needs of participants.

The 5km course, designed as a family-friendly health run, starts at the Seoul Botanical Garden’s Hosuwon, passes through the Wetland Ecological Park trail, Magok Interchange, and Hangang Park, turns around at the Seonam Water Reclamation Center, and returns to Hosuwon.

The 10km and 21km half marathon courses also start at Hosuwon in the Seoul Botanical Garden, with turnaround points near Jeungmisan and Anyangcheon Ecological Park respectively, before returning to Hosuwon.

Anyone nationwide interested in marathon running can participate. The entry fees are 20,000 KRW for 5km, 30,000 KRW for 10km, and 35,000 KRW for the half marathon.

Participants will receive commemorative items including a T-shirt, medal, program book, and snacks.

The registration quota is 1,000 for the 5km, 1,400 for the 10km, and 600 for the half marathon. Interested individuals can apply on the Gangseo Heojun Health Marathon website by September 25. However, registration may close early if the number of applicants exceeds the limit.

Park Dae-woo, Acting Mayor of Gangseo-gu, said, “We planned this marathon to transform the Heojun Festival, returning after 4 years, into a nationwide health and cultural festival. We hope many will participate in the inaugural Gangseo Heojun Health Marathon and also enjoy the Heojun Festival, our district’s representative event.”

The ‘21st Heojun Festival’ will be held from October 13 to 15 at the Seoul Botanical Garden’s Entrance Plaza and Chojawon area.
