All Islands of Gogunsan Archipelago Participate... Growing into a Unique Festival for Island Villages
Gunsan City announced on the 24th that the Small Island Village Festival, aiming to revitalize fishing village stay-type tourism through a unique festival in island villages, will be held for three days from the 28th to the 30th on Munyeo Island.
The Small Island Village Festival is a resident-led festival that discovers 'food, experience, and tourism' items reflecting the characteristics of fishing villages.
This festival was first held last year on Seonyudo Island. Based on a fishing village experience and leisure village, it was linked with the Jeonbuk Fishing Village Specialization Support Center's festival consulting project, allowing fishing village residents to directly participate in festival planning.
The festival was conducted with the purpose of developing a unique and sustainable festival exclusive to fishing villages and creating a venue for selling and promoting local specialties by village through the festival. It enhanced the satisfaction of family tourists with experiential events such as creating a camping zone suited to the island's own atmosphere and promotional events for local specialties.
This year’s Munyeo Island Small Island Village Festival prepared various experiential events for village residents and tourists to enjoy together at the Munyeo Island camping site. The main events include ▲ camping cooking contest using Munyeo Island specialties ▲ mudflat experience ▲ Munyeo Island clam jeon Makgeolli party ▲ guessing the weight of clams ▲ Munyeo Island beach plogging (picking up trash while running).
Additionally, this festival prepared to sell Munyeo Island clams, which boast the highest quality, at prices cheaper than the market. A limited sale event will be held offering more than 20% discount on peeled clams and clam jeotgal (fermented seafood).
A city official stated, "The Small Island Village Festival is a great opportunity to strengthen village capabilities as residents directly participate in festival planning," adding, "We will showcase the rich food and atmosphere of Gunsan’s island villages to tourists, promote stay-type tourism on Gunsan’s islands, and nurture this into a unique festival involving all islands of the Gogunsan Archipelago in the future."
Meanwhile, this year’s Small Island Village Festival is scheduled to be held on Seonyudo Island in September.
