20th Anniversary of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Convention Membership
International Conference Held in Seoul on 25-26
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, the Cultural Heritage Administration and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will hold an international conference on the 25th and 26th at the Grand Ballroom of the Chosun Hotel in Seoul. Since joining the convention in 2005, Korea has been elected as a member of the Intergovernmental Committee three times and served as the chair at the Intergovernmental Committee meeting held in Jeju Island in 2017. This conference is organized by the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Intangible Cultural Heritage Centre and the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation.
The conference will bring together experts including UNESCO Deputy Director-General Qian Tang, former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, NGOs, and representatives of the States Parties. They will discuss ▲ Intangible Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Living ▲ Intangible Cultural Heritage and Nature ▲ Intangible Cultural Heritage and Quality Education ▲ Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Digital Environment. The outcomes of the conference will be declared as the ‘Seoul Vision’ declaration and officially published as a UNESCO document.
The conference will be broadcast in Korean, English, French, and Spanish through the UNESCO website.
