Hwasun-gun and Good Neighbors Appoint 5th Child and Youth Council Members

22 Council Members to Build Child-Friendly City Hwasun

On the 24th, Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do, and Good Neighbors Jeonnam Northern Branch (Branch Manager Kang Seong-gyu) announced that they held the appointment ceremony for the 5th Hwasun-gun Children and Youth Council members on the 21st, organized through cooperation between public and private institutions.


The newly formed 5th Hwasun-gun Children and Youth Council was selected and composed of 22 children and youth under the age of 18 interested in Hwasun county administration, including 19 new members and 3 reappointed members, through open recruitment and recommendations from heads of child welfare facilities and other institutions.

At the appointment ceremony, Jeong Yeon-ji, Chairperson of the General Affairs Committee of the Hwasun County Council, who serves as an advisor advocating for the rights of children and youth, attended.


Certificates of appointment and council member badges were awarded to all 22 members so they could participate with pride as representatives of the children and youth of Hwasun-gun.


Additionally, a session on children’s rights education was held to enhance understanding of children’s rights and autonomous activities.


Meanwhile, the chairperson of the 5th Hwasun-gun Children and Youth Council was elected as Jang Na-young, a third-year student at Hwasun Iyang Middle School, and the vice-chairperson was Jeong Da-young from the Hwasun-gun Out-of-School Youth Support Center.


The Hwasun-gun Children and Youth Council is composed of three standing committees: the Education and Culture Committee, the Safety and Welfare Committee, and the Children’s Rights Committee, and activities aimed at creating a ‘Child-Friendly City Hwasun’ are anticipated.


Going forward, the council plans to proceed with ▲a joint research meeting (workshop) in August ▲a regular meeting in September ▲an activity photo exhibition (Photo Voice) in October ▲a roundtable and mock council in November ▲and a closing ceremony in December.


A county official stated, “Through the activities of the Children and Youth Council, we hope that members will pay attention to social issues and their surrounding environment among their peers, raise their voices, and gain valuable experiences that will serve as a foundation for growing into democratic citizens.”
