Park Jun-hee, Gwanak-gu Mayor, Visits 110 Summer Senior Centers

"Hello, this is Mayor Park Junhee, the filial district mayor. I came to personally listen to the stories of our elderly citizens. I will do my best to ensure you can enjoy a happy retirement at the senior centers."

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) is continuing its "Senior Center Tour Visits" to monitor the health of the elderly during the summer heatwave and to realize the "Listening to the Heart through Listening (以廳得心)" administration.

As of December last year, the elderly population in Gwanak-gu was about 82,000, ranking 5th among Seoul's autonomous districts in terms of elderly population size.

Accordingly, Mayor Park Junhee decided to support the elderly in having a healthy summer and to communicate directly by visiting all senior centers in the district.

Starting with Boramae Senior Center on July 19, Mayor Park Junhee will personally visit a total of 110 senior centers in the area (49 public senior centers and 61 private senior centers) over the course of one month, meeting approximately 4,080 elderly citizens.

Mayor Park plans to check the operation of air conditioners and inspect the safety of facilities at the senior centers, listen to any inconveniences or difficulties the elderly face in using the centers, and strive to create a safe and comfortable environment.

Moreover, any valuable opinions from the elderly that can be immediately addressed will be handled on-site, while issues requiring further review will be examined by the relevant departments and reflected in future district policies.

The elderly expressed their gratitude, saying, "We are thankful that the mayor visits the senior centers despite his busy schedule to listen to us," and requested, "Please continue to care for the residents and carry out proactive administration."

In June, the district took swift preemptive measures against the summer heatwave by conducting pre-inspections and cleaning of air conditioners at all 110 senior centers to help the elderly stay cool during the hot weather.

Additionally, to enable the elderly to measure their blood pressure easily, quickly, and accurately, fully automatic blood pressure monitors were installed in 52 private senior centers this year, following 38 public senior centers last year. The district is also working to improve the health and living environment of senior center users by installing insect repellents, dishwashers, and other equipment.

Mayor Park Junhee stated, "We are doing our best to realistically support the operation of senior centers," and added, "Over the next month, we will actively review the various suggestions from the elderly and work hard to resolve any issues."
