Public Libraries in Busan Region, Enjoy a 'Bookcation' at Cool Libraries

Busan City is launching the ‘Midsummer Library Bookcance (Book+Vacance)’ summer library visit campaign in collaboration with public libraries in the Busan area.

This campaign was created with the purpose of encouraging citizens to visit cool and comfortable libraries during the hot summer and enjoy a vacation reading books, thereby revitalizing library usage.


The ‘Midsummer Library Bookcance (Book+Vacance)’ campaign involves 46 public libraries in the Busan area, excluding those temporarily closed.


From July, participating libraries are offering various reading culture programs so that visitors can escape the heat by visiting nearby libraries open during nights and weekends, enjoying reading in a cool environment throughout the summer.


Key programs include ▲Youth career special lecture by author Kim Hye-jung, planned exhibition ‘Hwaha-da 花夏多???’ (Busan) ▲Family cultural arts performance ‘Seafood Comic Magic Show’ (Gupo) ▲Geumjeong Library Bookcance ‘A Night at the Library’ (Geumjeong) ▲Author Jung Hee-seon’s art exhibition ‘Confidently with Makdu’ (Geumsaem) ▲Library Wisdom School ‘How to Appreciate Art That Makes Everyday Life Art’ (Dadae, Saha, Suyeong, Yeonsan) ▲Cool summer at the library ‘The Barber of Seville Performance’ (Dong-gu Children’s English) ▲Local publisher-linked book talks with authors Park Hoon-ha and Kim Ji-hyun (Citizen) ▲Webtoon creation experience (Yeonje) ▲After-work classical humanities lectures (Haeundae Humanities), and more. Throughout July and August, a variety of programs such as author lectures, exhibitions, special vacation lectures, humanities courses, and book displays will be held.

As the peak summer vacation season begins, the number of library visitors is gradually increasing. The city expects that through this campaign and diverse program operations, citizens will be able to spend the hot summer coolly at libraries while enjoying reading and culture.


Shin Myeong-sik, Director of Creative Education at Busan City, stated, “Through the joint campaign of public libraries in the Busan area and the provision of diverse library services, we aim to encourage citizens to use libraries and contribute to the spread of reading culture. We hope everyone will take advantage of this summer’s vacation and holidays to find relaxation and leisure with books in the cool environment of libraries and have a special summer vacation.”
