BPA Hope Pantry, Overlapping Matches Lead to Gift of Abalone Samgyetang to Vulnerable Groups

Busan Port Authority (BPA) donated summer health seafood worth 6 million KRW to vulnerable groups in the local community through the ‘BPA Hope Pantry’ on the 21st, coinciding with Jungbok.

Reflecting the demands of the BPA Hope Pantry operating organizations, Busan Port Authority purchased domestic abalone and sea eel and delivered about 1 million KRW worth to each of the 1st to 6th branches.

The Dongsam Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, the operator of the 1st Hope Pantry branch, prepared a ‘Jungbok Abalone Samgyetang Sharing Event’ using the abalone donated by BPA on the 21st, providing it to about 130 people including low-income families and elderly living alone.

On that day, BPA employees participated in the sharing event, serving abalone samgyetang directly to local elderly and delivering it to neighbors with mobility difficulties.

The operators of the 2nd to 6th branches plan to deliver abalone and sea eel to BPA Hope Pantry users such as low-income families.

The BPA Hope Pantry is a food sharing project where donors and residents donate food ingredients to sharing refrigerators installed in various locations near the port with support from the Public Coexistence Solidarity Fund by BPA labor and management, and vulnerable households in need can take food for free. Currently, it operates in seven locations.

Kang Jun-seok, President of BPA, said, “We will continue to support the local community so that the consumption of seafood, which has been greatly depressed ahead of the discharge of radioactive water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan, can be revitalized and our neighbors in need can spend a healthy summer.”

BPA is accepting applications for additional Hope Pantry operating organizations until the 28th, and inquiries can be made to the BPA ESG Management Office.
