Comprehensive entertainment company Enterpartners announced on the 20th that it has established its webtoon subsidiary Studio Comics and will engage in webtoon production, service, and K-content creation utilizing IP (intellectual property rights).
Through the establishment of Studio Comics, Enterpartners plans to secure original IP by producing webtoons and setting up its own studio, while aiming to become a global K-content producer through organic collaboration with affiliated companies and maintaining stable supply partners in the future.
This year, Enterpartners acquired the production company Studio The Black, and its affiliate Blade Ent established its own drama production company Blade Media. It has also accelerated its capabilities by successively acquiring entertainment agencies and film/drama production companies such as Star Village Entertainment, J-Flex, and Hello I Am Newtopia. Additionally, it possesses numerous actors who have appeared in dramas on OTT (over-the-top) platforms like Netflix, Disney Plus, and TVING, thus providing an environment necessary for production. The company expects that integrating Studio Comics’ webtoon IP into content production will maximize synergy among its affiliates.
As the trend of video production based on webtoons spreads recently, the growth potential of the webtoon market is predicted to be immense. Webtoon studios have attracted significant attention, with YLAB recently passing the listing review and gathering 6.5 trillion KRW in subscription deposits with a competition rate of 1917 to 1 during its public offering.
A company representative explained about Studio Comics, “Through collaboration with affiliates that already have drama and film production companies and actor lineups, organic linkage for producing video content based on webtoon originals is possible,” adding, “A cyclical structure connecting webtoon IP, video content production, actors, art, and entertainment will be created, enabling internalization of K-content production.”
They also added, “To this end, we plan to invest in R&D for webtoon production and advancement.”
