Samsung Provides 3 Billion KRW Support for Heavy Rain Damage Recovery

Eight Samsung Electronics Affiliates Participate in Donation Campaign

Samsung announced on the 20th that it donated 3 billion KRW in relief funds to comfort residents affected by the heavy rains across the country and to support rapid damage recovery.

The donation involved eight affiliates including Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung SDI, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung SDS, Samsung Life Insurance, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, and Samsung C&T. Samsung delivered the funds to the National Disaster Relief Association after each affiliate went through external sponsorship review procedures such as the management committee.

In addition to donating 3 billion KRW in relief funds, Samsung is providing emergency relief supplies and supporting special inspections of home appliances to alleviate the difficulties of residents in the affected areas. Financial support is also being offered to card customers.

The relief supplies were provided to residents in regions severely damaged by the heavy rains, including Chungcheong Province, Jeolla Province, and Gyeongsangbuk Province. The relief sets, consisting of daily necessities such as blankets, tracksuits, and towels produced through Samsung’s sponsorship of the Korean Red Cross, total about 1,000 sets. Approximately 270 tent-type mobile temporary shelters for disaster relief were also included.

Samsung Card is offering relief to customers affected by the heavy rains by deferring credit card payments and allowing installment payments of scheduled amounts without additional interest charges. Samsung has also decided to reduce interest on short- and long-term card loans for customers in affected areas by up to 30%. Customers with long-term card loans maturing in September will be allowed to extend their loan terms to ease their burden.

Samsung has taken the lead in overcoming social crises by donating relief funds and supplies and supporting damage recovery whenever natural disasters occur domestically. Since 1995, the total amount Samsung has donated to overcome large-scale domestic disasters and calamities reaches 110 billion KRW.

Last August, Samsung donated 3 billion KRW in relief funds and 5,000 disaster relief kits to residents affected by the heavy rains in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, and Gangwon Province. In April, Samsung provided 3 billion KRW to support recovery efforts in special disaster areas affected by wildfires in Gangwon, Chungnam, Gyeongbuk, and Jeonnam provinces. During the heavy rains in October 2020, Samsung donated 3 billion KRW and conducted free inspections of electronic products.
