Yongsan-gu (Mayor Park Hee-young) is accepting submissions for the ‘Yongsan-type Smart Shelter’ public design contest until September 1.
This is to provide bus passengers with the opportunity to directly design bus stops that reflect the unique characteristics of Yongsan.
The smart shelter is a future-type bus boarding facility that integrates the Internet of Things (IoT) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to protect users from fine dust, heat waves, and cold waves.
The contest theme is ‘Yongsan-type Smart Shelter for the Safety and Convenience of Public Transportation Users.’
Submitted works should include ▲Yongsan’s history, culture, identity, and other characteristics ▲Universal Design (design for all people) ▲Smart technologies applicable to the shelter. Applying universal design is mandatory.
Anyone interested in the contest can create their work according to the specifications (A2, 420x594 mm), including design background and concept, drawings (floor plan, elevation, perspective, bird’s-eye view), etc.
The submission period is from August 28 to September 1. Individuals or teams of up to three members may submit only one entry per team.
Works can be submitted via email, mail, or in person (6th floor, Traffic Administration Division, Yongsan-gu Office, 150 Noksapyeong-daero). For mail or in-person submissions, foam board must be attached to the back of the work.
Related forms and guidelines can be found in the Notices/Announcements section on the Yongsan-gu website.
Submitted works will be reviewed by a judging panel composed of public officials and experts based on creativity and aesthetics, regional harmony, usability, and public value. The total prize money is 6 million KRW. In September, one grand prize winner (3 million KRW), one excellence prize winner (1.5 million KRW), and three encouragement prize winners (500,000 KRW each) will be selected and announced.
The winning designs will be used for five smart shelters scheduled to be installed by the district this year. Entries that involve plagiarism, have won other contests, or have legal issues related to intellectual property rights will be disqualified.
Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, stated, “Through this contest, we aim to discover bus stop designs with Yongsan’s unique color,” and added, “We hope many people with fresh ideas for public design that transforms the urban environment will participate.”
