Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun District, visited the Imun 3 District housing redevelopment project construction site on the 19th along with Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon for an urgent on-site inspection to prevent apartment construction defects.
This emergency inspection was conducted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government following a series of controversies over apartment construction defects, including the recent collapse accident at the underground parking lot in Geomdan, Incheon.
Mayor Lee and Mayor Oh received a briefing from construction site officials regarding the progress status and design structure, and carefully examined the site, including checking the strength of the concrete used in the construction.
Dongdaemun District has been making efforts such as conducting special training for construction workers on the 17th to prevent accidents related to safety and quality at construction sites.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government has introduced a system that records all construction processes on video for management purposes. Currently, it is being piloted at 74 public construction sites with budgets exceeding 10 billion KRW, and it plans to expand this to public construction projects under 10 billion KRW and private construction sites starting next year.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun District, stated, “We will thoroughly manage and supervise housing redevelopment project sites other than Imun 3 District as well,” adding, “We will continue to work in step with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to create a safe Dongdaemun District.”
