A 49-story landmark in the northeastern area of Seoul has been established next to Changdong Station in Dobong-gu, Seoul. It is expected to generate economic vitality and expand cultural infrastructure in Changdong, Dobong-gu.
On the 19th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH Corporation) announced the completion ceremony of ‘Seed Cube Changdong’.
Seed Cube Changdong is a leading project for creating a new economic center in Changdong and Sanggye. It consists of 792 residential officetels, office facilities, and commercial spaces, spanning from 7 basement floors to 49 above-ground floors with a total floor area of 143,533㎡. A public parking lot was constructed underground to replace the existing transfer parking lot.
The building’s exterior is designed with protruding cubes. According to the city, this symbolizes Seed Cube Changdong’s role as a seed containing nutrients to sprout ‘culture’ and ‘startups’ in the Changdong area.
Kim Heon-dong, president of SH Corporation, stated, “Since the area around Changdong Station, where Seed Cube Changdong is located, is considered the biggest beneficiary of the GTX-C line for balanced development between Gangnam and Gangbuk, we will take a leading role in enhancing the status of Seoul’s Changdong as a transportation hub and business center by constructing a complex transfer center on the transfer parking lot site right next to Seed Cube.”
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon said at the completion ceremony, “Seed Cube Changdong is a leading project aimed at revitalizing the economic base of Dobong, Nowon, and Seongbuk areas by fostering startups, culture, and industry. In particular, starting with Seed Cube Changdong, we plan to sequentially promote major hub projects so that the Changdong and Sanggye areas can be reborn as centers of startups, culture, industry, and transportation, creating a self-sufficient living zone.”
Meanwhile, about 300 people attended the completion ceremony, including Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, SH Corporation President Kim Heon-dong, Housing and Urban Guarantee Corporation (HUG) President Yoo Byung-tae, National Assembly member Oh Ki-hyung, Dobong-gu Mayor Oh Eon-seok, and residents of Dobong-gu.
