50 Departments, 161 Personnel Enter Emergency Level 2
Sacheon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 19th that it is mobilizing all administrative resources to achieve zero casualties from the heavy rain that began last week.
Following the heavy rain warning issued at 9 p.m. on the 15th, the city has activated the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, with 161 personnel from 50 departments entering emergency level 2 as of now.
On the 16th, following the issuance of a landslide advisory, an immediate evacuation order was issued for areas at risk of casualties within the jurisdiction, resulting in the evacuation of 87 people from 61 households to nearby village halls, along with the delivery of emergency relief supplies.
Mayor Park Dongsik held a situation assessment meeting on the 17th to prepare for the heavy rain, discussing disaster situation analysis and response measures for each stage of disaster progression. He especially instructed proactive measures and strengthened monitoring of areas at risk of casualties.
On the 12th, all departments conducted preliminary inspections of areas at risk of casualties within the jurisdiction, including landslide-prone areas, steep slopes, large construction sites, drainage pump stations, river flood risk areas, and small streams.
The city plans to continue holding situation assessment meetings and maintain an active support posture for the heavy rain by establishing hotlines with related organizations such as Sacheon Police Station, Sacheon Fire Station, and military units.
In particular, the city will maintain an emergency system centered on the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters until recovery from damages is complete, and will strongly promote rapid rescue and emergency restoration in the event of damage.
Mayor Park said, “To respond to unprecedented heavy rain, we will mobilize all available personnel from every department to prepare thoroughly without gaps,” adding, “All city employees will devote themselves to focusing administrative power on ensuring citizen safety and minimizing property damage.”
