Blockchain specialist company NvirWorld announced that it donated the proceeds from the sale of artworks from the '2023 聯:Yeon-eul It-da' exhibition, held in collaboration with the Gyeonggi Parents of Disabled Persons Association Yangpyeong Branch, to the same association.
The donation ceremony took place at 11 a.m. on the 18th at the Gyeonggi Parents of Disabled Persons Association Yangpyeong Branch located in Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province.
The '2023 聯:Yeon-eul It-da' exhibition showcased new works created by 23 developmentally disabled artists affiliated with the Gyeonggi Parents of Disabled Persons Association Yangpyeong Branch. These artists revealed their unique and original imaginations developed through their artistic labor. The exhibition is significant in highlighting that developmentally disabled individuals are recognized as workers in society through artistic activities, fulfilling their roles as members of the community and protecting their rightful rights.
According to the company, the artworks in this exhibition were sold both on-site and through NFT purchases on a blockchain-based NFT marketplace. Among the auctioned works, the piece titled ‘Goddess Jimin Unnie,’ created by developmentally disabled artist Jung Eun-hye and inspired by actress Han Ji-min, attracted the highest bid and drew considerable attention. The artwork initially started at 1 ETH (approximately KRW 2,470,000) and was ultimately sold for 2 ETH (approximately KRW 4,940,000).
Actress Han Ji-min, who inspired the artwork, posted on her SNS on June 21, saying, "Please show great interest in the <2023 聯:Yeon-eul It-da> exhibition by developmentally disabled painters who are taking a step closer to the world. All proceeds will be donated to the Gyeonggi Parents of Disabled Persons Association Yangpyeong Branch," along with several photos, showing her enthusiasm in promoting the exhibition.
NvirWorld CEO Lee Jin-sook stated, "Through this exhibition, we are pleased to provide a foundation for job creation that enables the most severely developmentally disabled, who have been excluded and denied rights in the labor sector, to participate equally in social and economic activities alongside non-disabled people and the local community. This is an opportunity to demonstrate that they can realize social value as a right, not merely through material productivity." She added, "We hope that this exhibition will be a turning point for expanding the rights of developmentally disabled individuals as artistic laborers."
The total proceeds from the sale of artworks through the exhibition amounted to KRW 10,001,904, which were donated to the Gyeonggi Parents of Disabled Persons Association Yangpyeong Branch for the benefit of developmentally disabled individuals. The donation will be used to promote social independence and support artistic activities for developmentally disabled persons.
Meanwhile, Enver Gallery has donated a total of KRW 221,686,488 (based on the auction closing time) through campaigns such as the ‘Dokdo NFT Donation Campaign,’ ‘UNICEF International Children’s Fund Campaign,’ and ‘BLUE ROSE Donation Campaign,’ and continues to carry out various CSR public interest activities.
