Cheongsong-gun Enhances Safety and Quality of Local Agricultural Products

Activation of Agricultural Product Quality Management Center Operations Including Residual Pesticide Analysis

The Agricultural Product Quality Management Center, which operates year-round to promote eco-friendly agriculture and produce high-quality safe agricultural products in Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongbuk, is providing great assistance to local farmers in practicing scientific farming.

Since this year, the Agricultural Product Quality Management Center has been actively offering a ‘Agricultural Product Safety Analysis’ service that analyzes 463 types of pesticide residues within two weeks when 2 to 3 kg of raw agricultural product samples are submitted before shipment.

Pesticide residue analysis is available free of charge for farmers who have their residence and cultivation sites within the jurisdiction. The analysis results are utilized for GAP and eco-friendly certification, guidance on safe pesticide use in response to PLS, etc., thereby reducing farmers’ analysis costs and contributing to the production of safe agricultural products.

In particular, plans are underway to conduct analyses on apples selected as Apple Kings at the Cheongsong Apple Festival and on agricultural products sold at the festival site, ensuring that tourists visiting the festival can purchase safe and high-quality apples.

Additionally, with the mandatory inspection of livestock manure compost maturity fully enforced since March 25, 2021, measurements of livestock manure maturity are being conducted. Services such as soil heavy metal analysis and measurements of sugar/acid content and hardness of other agricultural products are also provided, greatly contributing to improving the quality and safety of agricultural products produced in the region.

County Governor Yoon Kyung-hee stated, “By establishing an independent agricultural product safety analysis system, we will reduce farmers’ costs for external institution analyses and greatly contribute to improving the safety and quality of agricultural products.” He added, “We plan to devote all efforts to enhancing the prestige of the Cheongsong-gun agricultural product brand and increasing consumer trust through scientific farming practices from the cultivation environment to the produced agricultural products.”
