Shall We Play Science This Summer Vacation?

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that the Geumcheon Science Cube will operate a special summer vacation program for elementary school students called ‘Escape from Staying Home! Science Museum Exploration.’

‘Escape from Staying Home! Science Museum Exploration’ is designed to provide an opportunity to feel and understand scientific principles through interesting science experiences during the summer vacation.

The program is divided into science classes held at the Geumcheon Science Cube space and an exploration of the Seoul Metropolitan Science Museum.

From August 9 to 11, science kit classes will be conducted where participants can learn scientific principles by making items such as a magic piggy bank (reflection of light), string art (water science), astronomical telescope (refraction of light), and spinning top (optical illusion).

The science classes will be led by elementary school teachers.

On August 12, participants will visit the Seoul Metropolitan Science Museum to view the exhibition ‘The History of All Things - School Edition’ with a guide and engage in craft activities.

The science kit classes are targeted at 60 students in grades 5 to 6 of elementary school, and the Seoul Metropolitan Science Museum exploration is for 40 students in grades 4 to 6. Applications can be submitted on the Geumcheon-gu Office website ‘Integrated Reservation’ until August 3, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “We are exploring various ways for Geumcheon-gu youth to grow into creative talents of the future,” and added, “We will continue to strive to foster the local science and technology culture.”
