Seongdong-gu Conducts Emergency Inspections of Landslide-Prone Areas Amid Continuous Heavy Rain

Urgent Inspections of Landslide-Prone Areas, Cut Slopes, and Construction Sites to Prevent Disaster Accidents Caused by Heavy Rain

Jung Won-oh, the mayor of Seongdong-gu, visited the site where the landscaping stones of an apartment in Seongdong-gu had fallen off on the 11th to inspect the situation.

Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) conducted emergency inspections of key local facilities such as landslide-prone areas, steep slopes, and construction sites to prevent disaster accidents that may occur due to ongoing heavy rain.

Following recent heavy rains that washed away soil, incidents of natural stone detachment from mountain walls at apartments in Seongdong-gu occurred consecutively. Experts were consulted, and emergency measures such as installing waterproof sheets have been completed.

As damage from landslides and flooding continues due to concentrated heavy rain, Seongdong-gu inspected 59 parks, 8 landslide-prone areas and cut slopes, retaining walls, and construction sites. Areas including Maebongsan, Eungbongsan, and Daehyeonsan were examined, focusing on drainage maintenance, slope cracks and subsidence, tree uprooting, and erosion on hazardous slopes within the mountains. Given the ongoing rain, a situation team has been formed to continue inspections until the end of the monsoon season.

Seongdong-gu is establishing a crisis response system by controlling hiking trails in mountainous parks step-by-step according to weather warnings and closing floodgates connected to rivers to prepare for river flooding.

Earlier, in preparation for summer typhoons and heavy rains, Seongdong-gu formed the Flood and Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters in May and has been operating it 24 hours a day.

Additionally, flood control facilities such as sluice gates, sewage systems, rainwater pump stations, as well as vulnerable facilities including construction sites, retaining walls, embankments, and shopping districts are being intensively inspected. Resident centers in 17 neighborhoods respond promptly on-site in case of damage.

Currently, the district operates nine rainwater pump stations and inspects rainwater inlets. At the end of June, flood prevention facilities such as flood barriers, backflow prevention devices, and operable security windows were installed in semi-underground houses.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, "As heavy summer rains continue, we will thoroughly monitor vulnerable areas to protect residents' valuable property and lives and make every effort to prevent damage."
