Over 20 casualties have occurred due to heavy rain that fell for three days in the Gyeongbuk region.
According to the Gyeongbuk Fire Headquarters on the 15th, as of 3 p.m. that day, the heavy rain caused 14 deaths, 11 missing persons, and 2 injuries.
Damage has been reported in four locations: Yecheon, Mungyeong, Yeongju, and Bonghwa. Compared to the damage status as of noon that day, the number of deaths increased by 2 and missing persons by 1.
Most of the deceased were found to have been buried in landslides.
The fire authorities have conducted rescue operations for 166 people so far and are continuing life-saving efforts.
They have also issued a Level 2 response and deployed about 400 personnel and 150 pieces of equipment to carry out rescue operations.
The rainfall in the Gyeongbuk region from 0:00 a.m. on the 13th to 2:00 p.m. on this day was 458.5mm in Dongno (Mungyeong), 345.0mm in Seokpo (Bukdong Mountain area), 318.8mm in Mungyeong, 309.9mm in Yeongju, 247.0mm in Yecheon, 149.8mm in Sangju, 111.8mm in Ulleungdo, 93.5mm in Andong, 93.5mm in Yeongyang, 66.4mm in Gumi, and 55.5mm in Daegu.
The Daegu Regional Meteorological Administration forecasted that the rain will continue until the 18th.
On the 15th, very heavy rain of 30 to 60mm per hour is expected mainly in the northern inland and northeastern mountainous areas of Gyeongbuk, with very heavy rainfall continuing until the 16th.
On the 16th, very heavy rain of 30 to 60mm per hour and heavy rainfall are expected mainly in Daegu and the inland areas of Gyeongbuk.
Accordingly, heavy rain warnings are expected to be expanded in Daegu and the southern inland areas of Gyeongbuk.
