Namwon City Operates 'Traditional Market Safety Manager' to Prevent Fire and Safety Accidents

Namwon City in Jeonbuk announced on the 14th that it is deploying safety managers at four traditional markets (Gongseol, Yongnam, Unbong, and Inwol Markets), which are vulnerable to fires during the summer season, to prevent fires caused by aging facilities and various safety accidents.

The safety managers conduct safety inspections not only on market days but also on regular days by visiting the markets. They also provide education to market merchants on the use of outdoor and indoor fire hydrants, pre-removal of fire hazards within the market, how to use fire extinguishers, inspection and management of malfunctioning fire safety emergency bells, and refraining from using octopus-style power strips.

Additionally, as electricity usage increases due to air conditioners in the summer and the rainy season is concentrated this month, they are also managing circuit breakers in each merchant’s store to prevent accidents caused by electrical malfunctions, while conducting consultations tailored to the merchants’ perspectives.

A city official stated, “We will make every effort to manage safety by further utilizing traditional market safety managers so that citizens and tourists can use the traditional markets safely,” and added, “We ask not only the facility management entities but also all citizens to take an interest and actively cooperate to prevent accidents.”
