The Intelligent Robot Innovation Convergence University Project Group (Director Park Tae-joon), hosted by Hanyang University ERICA Campus, announced on the 14th that it held the "Intelligent Robot Innovation Convergence University Project 2023 Summer Performance Sharing Workshop" for three days starting from the 12th at the Gravel Hotel in Jeju.

This workshop was held to share the achievements of the Intelligent Robot Innovation Convergence University Project in the first half of this year, present each university's key plans for the second half, and discuss improvements and development directions related to the project plans.

In particular, the workshop focused on discussing the detailed progress status and activation plans of the WE-Meet project linked with the IC-PBL courses at each university.

IC-PBL (Industry Coupled Problem/Project Based Learning) is a teaching method that conducts classes centered on industrial issues as main tasks. Additionally, the WE-Meet project is a program in which the Ministry of Education, the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, universities, and companies collaborate to provide university students with work experience opportunities. It is linked with regular university courses, extracurricular programs, and awards academic credits, allowing students to build necessary job competencies through corporate internships and experience corporate culture.

Kwangwoon University (Project Director Professor Jung Moon-ho) stated that this year, about 120 students will participate in the WE-Meet project linked with eight regular credit courses and more than 10 participating companies including X.Y.Z. Pukyong National University (Project Director Professor Lee Kyung-chang) said that they will focus on hosting a robot competition with Busan City and operating a specialized robot education course with the Korea Institute of Robot Convergence in the second half of the year.

Sangmyung University (Project Director Professor Kang Tae-gu) said they will expand opportunities for students to participate in off-campus robot and invention competitions and major professional academic conferences by enhancing project-based practical skills in artificial intelligence, robotics, human/robot interfaces, and unmanned/automation fields. Also, Youngjin College (Project Director Professor Ahn Sang-wook) reported that in June, they successfully held a robot company job fair with job seekers, where recruitment officers from companies such as Hyundai Robotics, Bear Robotics, Neuromeka, and Rainbow Robotics participated, receiving great responses from students.

Chosun University (Project Director Professor Kim Tae-gyu) said they will hold an intelligent robot technology utilization idea competition as an opportunity to realize robot field ideas derived from specialized knowledge learned through the curriculum, and will also conduct robot education and competitions for the general public and workers to share and expand project outcomes.

Korea Polytechnic University (Project Director Professor Jung Myung-jin) stated that they are promoting curriculum utilization and creative design competitions in collaboration with Hanoi University of Science and Technology in Vietnam and Mongolian University of Life Sciences, and will pursue global exchange cooperation focusing on advanced intelligent robot fields.

The workshop also featured special lectures. ▲ Park Jeon-gyu, CEO of TutorUs Labs, gave a lecture and Q&A session on generative AI, ChatGPT, and EdTech to enhance instructors' capabilities. ▲ Kim Seo-hyun, Head of the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement, presented cooperation plans for supporting companies, including participation in developing intelligent robot innovation convergence university and robot curricula, talent cultivation through non-degree short-term courses, and robot convergence business support projects. ▲ Kim Dae-yeon, Director at the Korea Institute of Robot Convergence, explained the second half business plan of the Gumi Robot Job Innovation Center and discussed education courses for training specialized personnel in industrial robot utilization with the Intelligent Robot Innovation Convergence University.

Park Tae-joon, Director of the Intelligent Robot Innovation Convergence University Project Group (Professor of Robotics at Hanyang University ERICA), said, "This workshop was a valuable time to review the first half achievements of the consortium universities participating in the intelligent robot project, share best practices, and establish plans for the second half. Just as last year’s focus on joint-use university operations yielded great results, we will promote the WE-Meet project linked with IC-PBL regular courses as a key project in the second half of this year to achieve over 40 courses and more than 1,000 student completions."

Meanwhile, the Intelligent Robot Innovation Convergence University Project is an advanced field innovation convergence university project supported by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea. It aims to bridge educational gaps between regions and universities and establish a national-level system for cultivating core talents in advanced fields. Hanyang University ERICA Campus is the lead university of the intelligent robot innovation convergence university consortium, conducting the project for six years from 2021 to 2026 together with Kwangwoon University, Pukyong National University, Sangmyung University, Youngjin College, Chosun University, and Korea Polytechnic University.
