The CEO of the company issuing the Purever coin, which triggered the 'Gangnam kidnapping and murder case,' returned to Korea last month and underwent police investigation over allegations of lobbying in political and governmental circles.
On the 13th, the Financial Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that Lee (59), CEO of Uninetwork, the company issuing Purever, voluntarily appeared and was questioned three times as a suspect since his arrival last month. Purever is the coin identified as the trigger for the 'kidnapping and murder of a woman in her 40s in Gangnam' at the end of March.
According to the police, Lee is suspected of requesting favors to facilitate promotion when listing Purever on the cryptocurrency exchange Coinone in November 2020, and of giving pre-issued coins to public officials and others (charges include bribery and related offenses).
The police also investigated Park, a former Ministry of the Interior and Safety official, who is suspected of receiving the coins (charges include bribery and related offenses).
Earlier, in May, the police conducted searches and seizures at Coinone and at Lee’s residence and office. At that time, Lee was staying abroad, and the police requested immigration authorities to notify them upon his arrival.
