Seoul Heavy Rain Advisory Issued... "70mm Rainfall Per Hour"

"Strong Rain with Gusts, Thunder, and Lightning Until the Morning of the 12th"
Prepare for Damage Such as Fallen Trees and Flooding of Houses and Roads

The Korea Meteorological Administration announced at 2:20 PM on the 11th that a heavy rain advisory will be issued for the entire Seoul area.


A heavy rain advisory is issued when the rainfall is expected to be 60mm or more in 3 hours or 110mm or more in 12 hours. When a heavy rain advisory is in effect, it is difficult to avoid the rain even with an umbrella, so caution is needed regarding accidents such as river flooding.

Currently, a heavy rain advisory has been issued for 22 cities and counties in the Gyeonggi region, including Guri, Hanam, Gwangmyeong, Gwacheon, Bucheon, Gimpo, Seongnam, Anyang, Pocheon, Gapyeong, Paju, Icheon, Yeoju, Namyangju, Goyang, Yangpyeong, Osan, Yongin, Anseong, Suwon, Hwaseong, and Gwangju.


Among these, a total of 50 reports were received by 119 emergency services related to the monsoon rain until 2 PM on the same day. In Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province, where the heavy rain advisory was issued, a man in his 70s, Mr. A, who was taking a walk along the riverbank, was swept away by the swollen river and died. In addition, there were continuous reports of damage such as fallen trees, flooding of houses and roads, and concerns about river flooding.


Meanwhile, the Korea Meteorological Administration predicted that very heavy rain will fall in narrow areas, causing significant regional differences in rainfall intensity and amount. A representative from the Seoul Metropolitan Weather Administration said, "In the central region, very heavy rain of 30 to 70mm per hour accompanied by gusts, thunder, and lightning is expected until tomorrow morning, so please be especially careful to avoid related damage."
