According to the legal community on the 11th, the Unit's Investigation Division 2 (Chief Prosecutor Kim Young-cheol) and Investigation Division 3 (Chief Prosecutor Song Chang-jin) dispatched 20 investigative personnel to multiple locations, including Superintendent Kim's residence, this morning to secure related materials. This marks the third search and seizure operation targeting Superintendent Kim this year.
A representative of the Unit explained, "This search and seizure pertains to separate criminal charges against Superintendent Kim, unrelated to Daewoo Industrial Development." It is reported that during the bribery investigation, additional criminal allegations were identified, prompting the commencement of a new investigation.
Superintendent Kim is under investigation for allegedly receiving 120 million won out of a promised 300 million won from Lee Sang-young, chairman of Daewoo Industrial Development, in June last year, in exchange for halting a police investigation.
The Unit believes that when Daewoo Industrial Development was subjected to a police search and seizure in April last year over accounting fraud suspicions, Chairman Lee felt pressured and requested Superintendent Kim to intervene in the investigation. The Unit has continued its investigation after uncovering evidence that Superintendent Kim relayed the request to Officer A of the Financial Crime Investigation Unit at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, who was in charge of the investigation, and concealed the criminal proceeds received from Chairman Lee.
