Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is reportedly preparing to hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the 12th, coinciding with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit.
According to local Japanese media on the day, the two leaders are scheduled to visit Vilnius, Lithuania, where the NATO summit is being held. It is reported that they are coordinating related schedules to facilitate a meeting between the two heads of state. Prime Minister Kishida is expected to convey Japan's intention to strengthen support for Ukraine during his meeting with President Zelensky.
President Zelensky participated in the Group of Seven (G7) summit held in Hiroshima, Japan, last May, where he held talks with Prime Minister Kishida.
However, due to record heavy rains causing disasters including four deaths in Japan, it is reported that the final decision on whether Prime Minister Kishida will depart for the NATO summit has not yet been made.
