Students from the Webtoon Department at Dongseo University recently participated in a mural painting volunteer activity at Busan Detention Center.
This project was carried out as part of the ‘Corporate-linked Mega Project,’ a program under Dongseo University’s LINC 3.0 initiative, with 15 members of the Webtoon Department volunteer group taking part.
Students from the Department of Webtoon at Dongseo University are currently volunteering to paint murals.
Over four weeks, every Saturday, they filled the dark and bleak interior walls of the detention center with colorful and diverse paintings featuring the Ministry of Justice Correction Headquarters characters ‘Borami’ and ‘Bodmi,’ as well as cute animals, providing warm and hopeful artworks to visitors, which has received much positive feedback.
Park Gwan-gyun, a first-year student in the Webtoon Department who participated in the mural activity, said, “Participating in the Busan Detention Center mural project was a new and fun experience. I hope that visitors to the detention center find hope and courage by seeing the mural artworks.”
Shin Dong-yoon, director of Busan Detention Center, said, “The murals by Dongseo University students have breathed new life and hope into the detention center.”
He added, “I believe such work will greatly help the process of community integration and restoration,” and said, “I hope they continue to contribute to creating social value through more activities in the future.”
