Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) is creating the Nanji Themed Tourist Forest Trail in World Cup Park and will hold a completion ceremony on the 13th.

The Nanji Themed Tourist Forest Trail is located on the Metasequoia Road of Haneul Park in World Cup Park. The district has transformed a 1 km section here into a specialized street where Lycoris radiata and Lycoris sangsanghwa bloom throughout the year.

When Seoul City completes work on a 0.6 km section by the end of the year, the total length of the Nanji Themed Tourist Forest Trail will be 1.6 km, covering an area of 9,000㎡.

The district planted a total of 349,800 flowering plants along the Nanji Themed Tourist Forest Trail, including 260,000 Lycoris radiata, 18,900 Lycoris sangsanghwa, and 67,700 Liriope muscari. Eleven types of flowering plants with different blooming periods were selected so visitors can enjoy flowers all year round even in the city.

Among them, Lycoris radiata and Lycoris sangsanghwa have the flower language of ‘poignant love’ because when the leaves are present, there are no flowers, and when the flowers bloom, the leaves are absent, so they cannot be seen together. The district created colonies of these two flowers and installed photo sculptures throughout the street, decorating it as a themed street containing a poignant love story.

Along the road, 50 poems selected by the Mapo Cultural Center and Mapo Writers' Association are exhibited so visitors can enjoy both flowers and poetry, and the street was named ‘Poet's Street’.

The district plans to develop the Nanji Themed Tourist Forest Trail into a new tourist attraction in Mapo by holding festivals considering the blooming status and timing.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “It is deeply moving that Nanji Island, which used to be a garbage dump, has transformed into a place where flowers bloom all year round and poetry flows.” He added, “I hope it will be loved by many as a place for rest and recharging in the city and will become a new tourist attraction in Seoul.”

The completion ceremony is scheduled to be held at 5:30 p.m. on the 13th at the Metasequoia Road of Haneul Park.
