Finding the Historical Sites of Hampyeong Visited by Baekbeom Kim Gu
Jeollanam-do Hampyeong Office of Education announced on the 7th that it will hold the 'Baekbeom Ilji Reading Reflection Essay Contest.'
The contest, held from the 3rd of this month until the end of next month, is hosted by the Hampyeong Office of Education, the Baekbeom Kim Gu Memorial Project Association, and the Baekbeom Kim Gu Memorial Hall, and is organized and sponsored by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs.

The contest will be conducted at five middle schools?Hampyeong Middle School, Hampyeong Girls' Middle School, Hampyeong Wolya Middle School, Hampyeong Haebo Middle School, Nasan Practical Arts Middle School?and one high school, Hampyeong High School, with each school managing the event individually.
On the 6th, three officials including the Secretary-General and the Head of the Project Department from the Baekbeom Kim Gu Memorial Hall visited the Hampyeong Office of Education to discuss the schedule and share opinions on supporting the 'Baekbeom Ilji' book.
Additionally, together with officials from the Hampyeong Office of Education, they toured the Haedong Restaurant site, Hampyeong Elementary School, and the Lee Jae-hyeok House, guided by Choi Chang-ho, CEO of Hampyeong Broadcasting.
Secretary-General Lee Pil-woo explained, “The Baekbeom Ilji Reading Reflection Essay Contest, held nationwide for students, will be conducted only in Hampyeong County in the Jeollanam-do region in 2023. Hampyeong is the place where Baekbeom Kim Gu killed the Japanese soldier who assassinated our national mother and escaped, hiding at the 'Lee Jae-hyeok House.'”
He continued, “After liberation, the teacher visited Hampyeong, delivering lectures at Hampyeong Elementary School and speaking at the Haedong Restaurant, where he enjoyed Hampyeong bibimbap. These places hold deep significance. This contest is truly meaningful as it provides an opportunity for Hampyeong students to learn more about Baekbeom Kim Gu.”
Superintendent Beom Mi-kyung stated, “The Hampyeong Office of Education supports local history and historical education by utilizing the Kim Cheol Teacher Memorial Hall, the Shanghai Provisional Government Building, and Jasan Seowon. Through this Baekbeom Ilji Reading Reflection Essay Contest, we will support creating a meaningful time for our students to reflect once again on our country's history through books.”
