First Fully Funded by District in Seoul... Improvement in Speeding and Signal Violation Enforcement
Dongjak-gu (District Mayor Park Il-ha) is installing and operating a ‘rear unmanned traffic enforcement device’ within the child protection zone in front of Myeongsudae Hyundai Apartment on Hyeonchung-ro (Hyeonchung-ro 119), where vehicle traffic is heavy.
The district has introduced the latest equipment capable of enforcing traffic violations not only for general vehicles but also for two-wheelers such as motorcycles, through active consultations with related organizations including the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and Dongjak Police Station.
This improves on the existing front unmanned traffic enforcement devices, which had difficulty enforcing speeding and signal violations of fast-moving two-wheelers.
Although the installation of the ‘rear unmanned traffic enforcement device’ is a project promoted by the National Police Agency, Dongjak-gu became the first among Seoul’s 25 autonomous districts to fully fund and install it to solve the problem of frequent traffic accidents around schools.
After the equipment performance inspection by the Road Traffic Authority is conducted by August, a pilot operation is planned to start after September.
Guidance and enforcement for traffic violations such as speeding and signal violations by two- and four-wheeled vehicles will be carried out by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.
Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, said, “The rear unmanned traffic enforcement device can enforce traffic violations of all vehicles including two-wheelers, which will greatly help secure traffic safety within child protection zones and create noise-free streets.”
