Intensive Crackdown on Illegal Activities in Mountain Valleys Until the End of August
Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, expects an increase in visitors to mountain valleys during the summer season and has designated the period from August 1 to August 31 as a special crackdown period on illegal activities in forests, conducting intensive inspections.
This special crackdown will focus on popular water play facilities frequently visited during the summer vacation season, including Yongchu Valley in Anui-myeon, Ujeon Valley in Seoha-myeon, Chusang Valley in Macheon-myeon, and Bujeon Valley in Seosang-myeon.
The targets of the crackdown include illegal commercial facility operations, illegal use and damage to trees around campgrounds, and installation of unauthorized facilities within the forest.
Illegal conversion of forest land for water play facilities and other uses may result in imprisonment for up to five years or a fine of up to 50 million KRW. Additionally, cooking, smoking, dumping waste or trash, and lighting fires within the forest will each incur fines of up to 1 million KRW.
A county official stated, “Cooking, waste dumping, and illegal facility installation causing forest damage destroy our forests and cause inconvenience to the public. We ask for the active cooperation of citizens in protecting the proper forest environment.”
