The Incheon District Prosecutors' Office announced on the 4th that it has signed a business agreement with the Incheon Probation Office and Incheon Chamsarang Hospital to operate a customized treatment program for juvenile drug offenders.
This is the first drug treatment program for juveniles introduced nationwide, and it can be received for up to one year.
The three partner organizations have prepared a specialized program that comprehensively reflects the characteristics of juveniles and drug offenders, and agreed to establish a cooperative system to ensure customized treatment is provided.

The prosecution plans to offer treatment opportunities to juvenile drug offenders deemed suitable for treatment after screening tests through conditional suspension of indictment with treatment or conditional suspension of indictment with guidance from the probation office.
Incheon Chamsarang Hospital, a treatment and protection institution for drug addicts, will notify the prosecution and Incheon Probation Office of the progress after conducting neuropsychological tests, psychiatric counseling treatment, educational programs, and family counseling for the targeted juveniles.
The prosecution and Incheon Probation Office will continuously monitor the treatment progress and plan to improve the program accordingly.
Currently, juvenile drug crimes are on the rise, and there is a great need to actively combine treatment to prevent recidivism; however, there is no specialized drug treatment program for juveniles.
A prosecution official stated, "By utilizing the customized treatment program for juvenile drug offenders, we will actively treat from the early stages of drug addiction to prevent recidivism and help juveniles grow into healthy members of society."
