Kolon Industry Publishes 10th Sustainability Management Report

Focus on Achieving Practical Carbon Neutrality and Strengthening Safety Management
EcoVadis Sustainability Assessment 'Gold' for 3 Consecutive Years

Kolon Industries announced on the 30th that it has published the ‘2022 Sustainability Management Report.’ This is the tenth edition since the first sustainability management report in 2014.

Kolon Industries included in the report its ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) activities and achievements over the past year, as well as its mid- to long-term plans for ESG management. The report is organized around five core strategies: ▲ Achieving carbon neutrality (net zero) by 2047 (global standard) ▲ Developing and expanding eco-friendly products and materials ▲ Establishing accident-free workplaces for environment and safety ▲ Realizing win-win management across all business areas ▲ Strengthening management transparency and internalizing ethical management.

Kolon Industries is focusing on practical activities to realize carbon neutrality. Last year, it reduced greenhouse gases through waste recycling, energy savings by optimizing workplace facility conditions, and expanding the use of renewable energy. It is also securing competitiveness for the future. Following last year’s expansion of the hydrogen fuel cell business and investment in next-generation secondary battery materials, this year it is promoting investments in waste battery recycling technology and the development of various biodegradable plastics.

As the prevention of major accidents has become increasingly important, the company also concentrated on strengthening safety management activities. In January last year, Kolon Industries newly established the ‘Safety and Health Center,’ a dedicated safety and health organization directly under the CEO. Safety-related investments were also increased by approximately 9.4 billion KRW compared to the previous year, enhancing worker safety. Recently, all nine business sites, including the headquarters in Magok, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, received the ‘ISO 45001’ certification, the highest level of safety and health management certification, recognizing their efforts.

Kolon Industries received the ‘Gold’ rating for the third consecutive year this year from EcoVadis, a leading global survey organization evaluating corporate sustainability. The Gold rating is awarded to only the top 5% of all evaluated companies.

Kim Young-beom, CEO of Kolon Industries, said, "We are striving to become a more transparent and trustworthy company for our customers and shareholders," adding, "Based on the company-wide commitment to sustainability management, we will focus even more on internalizing ESG management going forward."

The report can be downloaded from the Kolon Industries website and was published in a horizontal design, the same as last year, to enhance readability for customers and stakeholders.
