"BJ Ayoung, Suspect in China, Speaks Out: 'I Abandoned, But Did Not Murder or Torture'"

"Cannot Conclude Sign Torture or Beating"

Regarding the case of BJ Ah-Young (33, real name Byeon Ah-Young), who died under suspicious circumstances while traveling in Cambodia, the Chinese couple arrested as suspects in the murder have partially denied the charges, stating, "It is true that we abandoned the body, but we did not kill, beat, or torture her."

The YouTube channel ‘Entertainment President Lee Jin-Ho’ posted a video titled “BJ Ah-Young Case Twist Update! The Wife’s Excuse Breaking Silence is Chilling” on the 28th, stating, “According to recent explanations from the Overseas Citizens Protection Division, the charge of ‘murder involving torture, cruel acts, or rape’ applied to the Chinese couple in their 30s is a category of charges used in the local judicial system at the time of indictment, but it is not a specific charge,” and added, “It cannot be definitively concluded that BJ Ah-Young’s cause of death was torture or beating.”

Regarding claims that there were signs of beating on Ah-Young’s face and body when the body was found, it was said, “It was reported that there were signs of beating on the face or body, but it requires a detailed autopsy to determine whether these wounds occurred before death or during the process of abandoning the body after death.” He speculated, “Considering the local situation, it seems that the autopsy results will take at least a month or more to come out.”

He particularly relayed a story from a domestic broadcasting company official who met the Chinese couple in their 30s detained in a Cambodian detention center, saying, “The wife said, ‘It is true that we abandoned the deceased’s body, but we did not kill, torture, or beat her.’”

Mr. Lee added, “The (Chinese) couple also clearly stated why they abandoned Ah-Young’s body and the circumstances leading to her death, but out of respect for the bereaved family’s position and the deceased’s honor, I will refrain from elaborating.”

Ah-Young was an influencer with 160,000 subscribers on AfreecaTV and 250,000 followers on Instagram. In March, she posted on Instagram, “I plan to live as a regular person for a while,” and “I will work hard in my new life as a regular person Ah-Young,” then paused her activities. On the 6th, she was found dead in a pond in a village near Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia.

Local police arrested the Chinese couple who run a hospital based on fingerprints left on the cloth wrapping the body. Claims spread that there were signs of beating on Ah-Young’s face and body when the body was found, fueling speculation that it might have been a ‘torture murder.’

The couple arrested on murder charges claimed that they administered a serum injection to Ah-Young, and she died due to a seizure caused by it.
