An illegal dog slaughterhouse operating in Iksan, Jeonbuk was uncovered.
On the 29th, animal organizations 'CARE & Watchdog' reported to the police two individuals: Mr. A (in his 60s), who illegally operated a dog slaughterhouse in Mokcheon-dong, Iksan City, and Mr. B (in his 70s), who handed over dogs he raised to this place.
After receiving a tip about the slaughterhouse, the organizations staked out the area from the previous day and witnessed Mr. A loading two dogs into his car and entering the slaughterhouse that morning.
According to the organizations, Mr. A slaughtered the dogs using cruel methods such as wrapping a sturdy wire around the dogs' necks and setting it on fire with a torch. The floor of the slaughterhouse was soaked with animal blood, and numerous animal carcasses were found in the refrigerator, the organizations reported. They also claimed that Mr. B handed over dogs he raised to the slaughterhouse for consumption purposes.
Mr. A has been operating the slaughterhouse here for at least 20 years, and it was reported that Mr. B requested Mr. A to make dog soju on that day.
A representative of the organizations explained, "At the slaughterhouse site, 35 dogs being raised and numerous dog heads and paws were found." The organizations rescued the dogs waiting for death in cramped cages, obtained a letter of ownership relinquishment from Mr. A, and reported him to the police on charges of violating the Animal Protection Act.
A representative of the organizations stated, "Although the enforcement regulations of the Animal Protection Act have been revised to allow punishment for dog slaughter as animal cruelty, illegal activities are still being carried out everywhere," adding, "We plan to continue monitoring regularly."
Earlier, on the 10th, a man in his 70s was booked by the police on suspicion of slaughtering multiple dogs while operating a dog farm in Cheonan, Chungnam. According to the police and Cheonan City, 68 live dogs and 50 goats were confirmed at the site that day, and about 60 dogs were confined in square metal cages.
At the time, the police investigated on the grounds that the man slaughtered dogs to supply dog meat to a bosintang restaurant.
