"Criticism of Moon, Even Trump Becomes Anti-State Force"
"Peace on the Korean Peninsula, What a President Should Do"
Democratic Party lawmaker Woo Sang-ho evaluated President Yoon Suk-yeol's characterization of the Moon Jae-in administration and opposition parties as "anti-state forces" by saying, "It is somewhat shocking that the President of the Republic of Korea made remarks that only far-right, completely hardcore conservatives would say."
In an interview with SBS Radio's 'Kim Tae-hyun's Political Show' on the 29th, Rep. Woo said that President Yoon's remarks were "a political move to incite far-right forces and expand his support base."
At the 69th anniversary founding ceremony of the Korea Freedom Federation the day before, President Yoon stated, "Anti-state forces with distorted historical consciousness and irresponsible national views were singing the praises of a declaration to end the war."
Regarding this, Rep. Woo said, "Efforts to establish peace on the Korean Peninsula have been pursued by any president of the Republic of Korea beyond conservative and progressive lines," adding, "To belittle this is something only the most hardcore far-right among the far-right would say, and honestly, I don't understand whether President Yoon's remarks mean to bring down North Korea through war."
He pointed out, "In short, a declaration to end the war is about signing a so-called peace agreement to prevent war on the Korean Peninsula, and the person who promoted this was former U.S. President Donald Trump," adding, "Trying to criticize the Moon Jae-in administration but ending up labeling the Trump administration as anti-state forces is quite awkward."
He continued, "Suddenly it turned into an anti-American declaration, showing a very shallow political tactic that is out of touch with international affairs," and criticized, "While North Korea's nuclear armament and provocations must be responded to firmly, denying even the basic institutional framework to establish peace on the Korean Peninsula is going too far."
Regarding the interpretation that President Yoon's remarks about "forces shaking and threatening the Republic of Korea with fake news and rumors and denying national identity" were aimed at the Democratic Party, Rep. Woo said, "The president's level is too low for me to comment."
He added, "Even during past conservative administrations, no one made such remarks," and said, "The call to eliminate fake news has generally been made by any president regardless of conservative or progressive, but because it is repeatedly used as a target to attack a specific camp, I believe it deviates from the integrative attitude a president should have."
