Kimje Baekgu Special Vehicle Innovation Cluster to be Developed as a Leading Investment Zone

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 29th that it plans to designate the Gimje Baekgu Special Vehicle Innovation Cluster as an Investment Leading Zone after deliberation by the National Land Policy Committee. Special vehicles refer to automobiles equipped with special equipment such as fire trucks and tank lorries, used for special purposes.

The Investment Leading Zone is intended to foster strategic projects with development potential as regional growth hubs by providing concentrated support. Once designated as an Investment Leading Zone, it will receive benefits such as financial support, tax reductions, and special exceptions like relaxed building coverage ratios and floor area ratios.

The Gimje Baekgu Special Vehicle Innovation Cluster Investment Leading Zone plans to create a second complex to accommodate the continuous demand from the special vehicle industry that could not move into the already fully leased first complex, while also expanding support facilities for the special vehicle industry.

By 2027, a specialized complex will be established, concentrating special vehicle manufacturing and support functions such as a comprehensive support center for corporate research and development including core parts testing and evaluation, as well as inspection support centers and self-certification centers for special vehicle manufacturing, certification, and inspection.

In addition, a win-win hub complex linked with multi-ministerial support projects will be created to provide convenient residential and living environments for local residents and workers residing in the area.

Kim Jeonghee, Director of National Land Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, "The Gimje Baekgu Special Vehicle Innovation Cluster integrates all processes of the special vehicle industry, significantly reducing the time and cost required for special vehicle production and certification. Synergistic effects are expected through organic connections among the automobile industries in Jeonbuk region, such as Wanju Hyundai Motor and Gunsan Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle."
