On the 27th, Incheon City held a demonstration of the self-developed 'Carbon Neutral Manure Pumping System' at the Gajwa Office of the Incheon Environmental Corporation in Gajwa-dong, Seo-gu, and began full-scale pilot operation.
The electric manure pumping system converts the existing system, which used diesel engine power of diesel vehicles to pump manure to treatment facilities, into an electric system. This is an eco-friendly technology that can drastically reduce air pollutants and greenhouse gases.
As a result of joint research conducted by Incheon City and the Incheon Environmental Corporation, they succeeded in manufacturing and operating the carbon neutral manure pumping system in just over a year. This is the first case nationwide.
If the pumping systems of about 100 manure transport vehicles in the Incheon area are changed to electric pumping systems using solar power, it can reduce carbon emissions by 147 tons annually.
Assuming the annual carbon dioxide absorption of a 30-year-old pine forest is 10.8 tons per hectare (10,000㎡, about 1.4 soccer fields), this is equivalent to replacing about 14 hectares of forest, roughly the size of 19.6 soccer fields.
In addition, air pollutants such as nitrogen oxides (NOx), fine dust (PM-10), and sulfur oxides (SOx) can be reduced by 112 tons, 11 tons, and 79 tons respectively per year. Vehicle fuel costs are also expected to be reduced by about 77 million KRW.
An official from Incheon City stated, "We plan to expand the operation of the electric manure pumping system, secure self-consumption power using solar energy, and review the application of the eco-friendly pumping system to other fields. We will do our best to reduce air pollutants and realize the 2045 Incheon Carbon Neutral Vision."
