Cho Su-jin Reveals Text Messages Explaining Resignation Background
Former lawmaker Geum Tae-seop, who leads the new party preparation group 'Reflection and Exploration for a Different Future,' announced that Gwak Dae-jung (pen name Bong Dal-ho), who joined as the spokesperson, has decided to resign from the People Power Party's Minsheng 119 Special Committee.
On the 27th, Gwak posted on Facebook a message titled 'Resigning from the People Power Party Minsheng 119 Committee,' sharing a screenshot of a KakaoTalk chat with Cho Soo-jin, the chairperson of the Minsheng 119 Special Committee and a People Power Party lawmaker. In the message, Cho told Gwak, "You can keep your name on the Minsheng 119 list, but do not attend the meetings."
Gwak explained, "I was unsure whether I should resign if I became the spokesperson for the new party, so I thought it was right to hear Cho's opinion and called her. She said, 'Since this is a bipartisan organization, there is no need to resign.' Yang Hyang-ja, who was formerly with the Democratic Party and is now independent, serves as the chairperson of the People Power Party's Semiconductor Special Committee, so considering that precedent, I thought her words were not wrong." Yang recently declared the founding of the new party 'Hope of Korea.'
Gwak also said that Cho asked him to tell reporters, "Even if they call, please say that you will continue to participate in the Minsheng Special Committee activities." However, afterward, he received a KakaoTalk message telling him not to attend the Minsheng Special Committee meetings.
Gwak expressed his displeasure, saying, "I understand the intention not to make a fuss, but 'just keeping your name on the list without participating' does not make sense to me. Moreover, to 'notify' this by text message?this is not even a text dismissal, so what is this? Even when firing a part-time worker at a convenience store, they don't do it like this. I find it quite surprising that someone could think this way."
He continued, "Anyway, I am resigning in this unintended manner. We will probably meet often from now on, so I hope we can meet with smiles next time. I just want to say briefly that 'people should not be treated like that.' Saying you are 'for the people' while being careless or disrespectful to certain individuals is, in my view, all deception and hypocrisy."
