Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that the 'Jorongbak Small Library' will officially open on the 27th.
The Jorongbak Small Library was established in Jorongbak Village, Daerim 1-dong, with a total floor area of 198㎡ and three floors above ground. Located just a 2-minute walk from Shindaerim Elementary School and a 4-minute walk from Daerim Middle School, it is expected to attract not only nearby residents but also many after-school students.
The Jorongbak Small Library features ▲1st floor with children's and infant books and new arrivals introduced to readers through book curation ▲2nd floor with youth and adult books and a reading room ▲3rd floor with a multipurpose room (program room).
The district is holding a message tree participation event as part of the Jorongbak Small Library opening ceremony. The first 100 participants will receive a pet plant growing kit, and a book curation related to pet plants will be conducted.
The Jorongbak Small Library has been in pilot operation since June 8, during which only book reading is allowed. From the opening day on June 27, in addition to reading the collection materials, book borrowing and returning, as well as interlibrary loan services, will begin.
Operating hours are Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed on Sundays, Mondays, and public holidays.
Furthermore, from July, various reading lectures and experiential programs will be offered to residents.
The district plans to support the Jorongbak Small Library in various ways so that it becomes a family-centered library and a complex cultural space that spreads reading culture within the community and facilitates communication among different age groups.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “I hope the Jorongbak Small Library will become a space for residents' culture, leisure, and communication beyond the library's original function,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to expand the reading infrastructure in the region and operate it stably.”
