Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, held the 73rd anniversary commemoration of the Korean War on the 25th at 10:30 a.m. at the Yeongdeok Culture and Sports Center.
About 200 people attended the event, including Kim Gwang-yeol, Mayor of Yeongdeok-gun, Son Deok-su, Chairman of the County Council and council members, Lee Man-sik, Chairman of the Yeongdeok Branch of the Korean War Veterans Association, heads of veterans organizations, veterans, and bereaved families. Soldiers from the 50th Division Yeongdeok Battalion lined up to honor the Korean War veterans.
The event proceeded with a consolation performance, a commemorative ceremony, and a lunch banquet for the veterans. Notably, the Silver Star Medal was posthumously awarded to the late Army Lieutenant Kim Taek-yeol, and the Mayor’s Commendation Plaques of Yeongdeok-gun were presented to veterans Kim Gyeong-chang and Joo Ok-chang.
Mayor Kim Gwang-yeol expressed, “I deeply thank the Korean War veterans and their families who willingly attended the 73rd anniversary commemoration despite their advanced age,” and added, “We will do our best to pass down the spirit of the Korean War veterans who made today’s advanced Republic of Korea possible to future generations and to realize the social value of honoring veterans.”
