Yoon Couple Visits 'Special Exhibition on the ROK-US Alliance,' Urging to Reflect on Its Value and Meaning

70th Anniversary of the Korea-US Alliance and 141st Anniversary of the Treaty of Peace, Amity, and Commerce

President Yoon Suk-yeol visited a special exhibition held to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korea-US alliance on the 25th, stating, "I hope this will be an opportunity to reflect on the value and meaning of the Korea-US alliance."


On the same day in the afternoon, President Yoon and First Lady Kim Keon-hee visited the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History to view the newly renovated "70th Anniversary of the Korea-US Alliance Special Exhibition." Marking the 70th anniversary of the Korea-US alliance and the 141st anniversary of the Treaty of Peace, Amity, and Commerce between Korea and the United States, the event aimed to reexamine the history of bilateral relations in diplomacy, security, civilian exchanges, and culture from various perspectives. The President and First Lady spent time reflecting on the historical significance together with representatives symbolizing the past, present, and future of the Korea-US alliance.

The President and First Lady toured the "Korea-US Alliance in Numbers" exhibition and entered the third-floor event hall via the museum's outdoor stairs. They greeted attendees who had come to look back on the 70-year journey of the Korea-US alliance. In particular, special thanks were extended to General Kim Du-man, listed among the "Top 10 Heroes of Korea-US War Veterans," as well as to Baek Nam-hee and Kim Mi-ryeong (singer Jin Mi-ryeong), descendants of the late General Paik Sun-yup and the late Colonel Kim Dong-seok.


At the event, President Yoon said, "I hope this 70th anniversary exhibition of the Korea-US alliance will serve as an opportunity for many people to reflect on the value and meaning of the alliance," adding, "It would be great if this exhibition accurately conveys the origins, milestones, and achievements of the alliance to the future generations who will lead the Korea-US alliance."


On-site, he signed the guestbook placed in front of the exhibition corner titled "A Nation Remembering Its Heroes: Top 10 Heroes of Korea-US War Veterans." The guestbook also contains signatures of General Kim Du-man, a hero of the Korean War; Kim Byung-jin, an Army cadet representing the future generation of Korea-US relations; Monica Torres Nett, granddaughter of a war veteran; and seven key officials from both Korea and the United States.


Meanwhile, the event was attended by key Korea-US officials including Foreign Minister Park Jin, Defense Minister Lee Jong-sup, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Park Bo-gyun, Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Park Min-sik, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Kim Seung-gyeom, Deputy Commander of the ROK-US Combined Forces Command Ahn Byung-seok, Defense Innovation Committee member Kim Kwan-jin, U.S. Ambassador to Korea Philip Goldberg, Commander of the ROK-US Combined Forces Paul LaCamera, as well as Hwang Jin-ha, President of the Korea-US Friendship Association, and Lim Ho-young, Chairman of the Korea-US Alliance Foundation.
