Seocho-gu, First Seoul District to Conduct Youth Veterans Experience Field Trip Commendation for Meritorious Veterans by Veterans Organizations

Seocho-gu (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) is operating the ‘One-Day Live Veterans Experience’ field trip for youth, the future generation, to promote veterans culture in honor of the 73rd anniversary of the Korean War during the Month of National Veterans and Patriots. This is the first time such a program is being held among Seoul’s autonomous districts.

Since the 22nd of last month, the district has been recruiting schools wishing to participate in the education program targeting upper-grade elementary and middle school students. On the 23rd, over 50 students from Sindong Elementary School will tour the War Memorial of Korea and Baekbeom Kim Gu Memorial Hall with professional guides.

First, at the War Memorial of Korea, students will visit the outdoor exhibition area displaying large military equipment such as armored vehicles and aircraft used in wars, the War History Room showcasing Korea’s war history at a glance, and the Korean War Room where they can learn detailed information about the Korean War. They will also have the opportunity to experience historical sites firsthand using an AR history experience program.

Afterwards, they will visit the Baekbeom Kim Gu Memorial Hall to view permanent and special exhibitions that help understand the life of Baekbeom Kim Gu, the history of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, and modern and contemporary Korean history.

The district plans to expand the number of participants and sessions after conducting satisfaction surveys, so that more children and youth can have the opportunity to experience veterans culture through field trips.

Meanwhile, on the 15th, Seocho-gu held the ‘Month of National Veterans and Patriots and the 73rd Anniversary of the Korean War Commemoration Ceremony’ at the Maehun Yun Bong-gil Memorial Square with the catchphrase “We will repay your sacrifice and dedication with happiness in Seocho,” attended by about 400 veterans and residents living in the district.

At the ceremony, Mayor Jeon Seong-su presented the Musunghwarang Military Merit Medal to the family of Sergeant Heo Ui-do of the 12th Infantry Division, a Korean War veteran, and awarded certificates of commendation to 16 distinguished members of veterans organizations, expressing respect and gratitude for those who sacrificed for the country.

Additionally, the event featured a classical performance by the Seoripul Youth Arts Group ‘Eumgam Art,’ a performance by the History Children’s Choir, a performance by invited singer Namgung Ok-bun, and various veterans, health, and welfare experience booths, providing attendees with both inspiration and enjoyment.

Furthermore, to commemorate the Month of National Veterans and Patriots, the district distributed consolation money of 70,000 KRW each to 1,580 members of veterans organizations, 1,000,000 KRW each to nine veterans organizations, and 450,000 KRW to 338 Korean War veterans residing in Seocho-gu, an increase of 100,000 KRW from last year.

Since 2021, Seocho-gu has been the first autonomous district in Seoul to establish a ‘Welfare Allowance for Spouses of Deceased Veterans,’ providing 70,000 KRW monthly. It also supports death condolence money, funeral flags, condolence flowers, and funeral supplies upon the death of national veterans.

Mayor Jeon Seong-su stated, “We will do our best to promote a veterans culture where national veterans who dedicated themselves to the country are respected and honored, along with advancing various veterans welfare projects.”
