Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station announced on the 21st that it has sent the current sports association president, Mr. A, to the prosecution on charges of violating the restrictions on donation activities under the Act on Public Organizations, etc. Election by Entrustment (Entrusted Election Act).
Mr. A is accused of providing gift boxes worth about 30,000 won to three sports association executives on November 12 of last year, about a month before the election for the president of the Gwangju Gwangsan-gu Sports Association.
According to the Entrusted Election Act, candidates are prohibited from making donations during the restricted period, and violations can result in imprisonment for up to three years or a fine of up to 30 million won.
Mr. A was reported to the police after the executives who received the gift boxes voluntarily reported the matter to the election management committee.
