Today's course is Jangji Station on Seoul Subway Line 8. The name Jangji (長旨) is said to have been given either because the village is long or because there were many reeds in the neighborhood. When Jangji Station first opened in 1996, the surrounding area was a vast empty field, but over time, large distribution complexes, logistics centers, a legal town, and Wirye New Town have been established, steadily increasing the number of users.
Exiting from Exit 4 of Jangji Station and walking to the left, you will find Geulsaem Park in front of a uniquely shaped apartment complex. It is a neighborhood park built between Garden Five and nearby apartments, featuring a pine forest, a metasequoia path, and a pond plaza, making it a beloved resting place for local residents. On one side of Geulsaem Park is the Raemian Gallery operated by Samsung C&T Construction Division. The transparent glass and architecture inspired by Korean terrain offer a unique scenery. It is open for self-guided tours except on Mondays.
Passing through Geulsaem Park, at Sutnae Bridge crossing Tancheon, you can enter Tancheon. Tancheon is one of Seoul's representative tributary streams that joins the Han River along with Anyangcheon and Jungnangcheon, requiring little explanation. You can continue walking along Tancheon, but this time, head toward Jangjicheon, a small stream that joins Tancheon. It originates around the Namhansanseong area, passes through Geoyeo-dong and Jangji-dong, and merges into Tancheon. A 4.4 km section has a well-maintained walking trail. Songpa-gu has plans to turn this area into the "Venice of Seoul."
Walking along Jangjicheon, you will see massive buildings on both sides. This is Garden Five, the largest distribution logistics complex in Korea. It consists of Garden Five Life, which includes shopping and lifestyle facilities; Garden Five Works, an office and apartment-type factory district; Garden Five Tool, a furniture market; and Garden Five Express, a logistics complex. The rooftops of each building in Garden Five Life have gardens. These are the largest rooftop gardens in Korea, all connected and used as walking paths, and various performances and events are held here, making it a popular spot.
