Seatbelt and Camera Defects... Hyundai and Mercedes-Benz Recall 326,723 Vehicles

On the 21st, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that a total of 326,723 vehicles across 22 models manufactured or imported and sold by Hyundai Motor Company, Kia, Mercedes-Benz Korea, GM Korea, Ford Sales Service Korea, Volkswagen Group Korea, and FMK have been found to have manufacturing defects and will undergo voluntary corrective actions (recalls).

Among them, 273,643 units of 5 models including the Hyundai G80 will be recalled starting from the 30th of this month due to a defect in the internal component (gas generator) of the front seatbelt adjuster. The GV60, with 2,438 units, will be recalled from the 23rd due to a power transmission device manufacturing error.


Kia Bongo 3, totaling 36,171 units, will undergo recall starting from the 27th due to a design error in the auxiliary heater. Ten models including the Mercedes-Benz S580 4MATIC, totaling 9,178 units, will be recalled from the 23rd due to software issues in the vehicle stability control system.


GM Korea Equinox, with 2,294 units, will be recalled due to non-compliance with safety standards regarding the thickness of the child restraint seat attachment device, and Ford Mustang, with 2,210 units, will undergo voluntary recall starting from the 30th and 27th respectively, due to the rear camera screen not displaying.


Volkswagen Bentley Flying Spur V8, with 724 units, will be recalled from the 23rd due to a defect in the rear seat entertainment screen fixation. FMK Ferrari 296 GTB and one other model, totaling 65 units, will be recalled starting from the 1st of next month due to the possibility of fuel leakage caused by a defect in the fuel tank connection pipe.


Each manufacturer plans to notify vehicle owners of the recall procedures via mail and mobile text messages. If a vehicle owner has repaired the defect at their own expense, they can apply for repair cost compensation from the manufacturer. Whether a vehicle is subject to recall and detailed manufacturing defect information can be checked by entering the vehicle number or chassis number on the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s automobile recall center website.
