Gumi-si Expands Nighttime Extended Childcare Centers to 29 Locations

18% Increase in Children Using Night Care

Diverse Care Needs and Significant Effects

Gumi City in Gyeongbuk expanded the number of nighttime extended daycare centers from 19 to 29 last April to alleviate the childcare burden on parents.

Gumi-si Expands Nighttime Extended Childcare Centers to 29 Locations Gumi City has expanded the number of designated night-extended daycare centers from 19 to 29 locations.

Since the expansion, a total of 423 children have used approximately 8,365 hours of nighttime childcare over two months, with the number of children using the service increasing by 18% compared to March, accelerating efforts to eliminate childcare blind spots.

The city plans to continuously expand nighttime extended daycare centers to meet the diverse childcare demands arising from changes in work patterns and the increase in dual-income couples, and to implement specialized programs such as drawing activities during nighttime care to enhance quality.

Mayor Kim Jang-ho stated, “By expanding nighttime extended daycare centers, we will reduce parents' childcare burdens and create a safe childcare environment, making Gumi City a better place to raise children.”

Nighttime extended daycare centers provide childcare services beyond the standard care hours (7:30 AM to 7:30 PM) up to midnight. Children enrolled in other daycare centers or kindergartens can also use these services for up to 60 hours per month without any childcare fee burden.

Childcare fees are fully supported by the government, and to improve the quality of care, daycare centers receive personnel cost support if there are two or more children in the nighttime extended class and the total care hours exceed 20 hours per month.

The status of designated nighttime extended daycare centers can be checked on the Gumi City Hall website. To apply for nighttime extended care, guardians of children receiving extended care fees for ages 0-2, Nuri curriculum childcare fees for ages 3-5, multicultural childcare fees, childcare fees for children with disabilities, or preschool tuition must submit an application directly to a designated nighttime extended daycare center.
