Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin City, presided over an executive official meeting on the 19th and ordered the preparation of measures to prevent damage from heavy summer rains and heatwaves affecting socially vulnerable groups.
Mayor Lee said, "Each district office should inspect disaster-vulnerable facilities such as rivers and steep slopes, and the city must conduct thorough preliminary inspections of large construction sites." He added, "Areas that were repaired from last year's heavy rain damage must be thoroughly checked to prevent secondary damage. I will also visit and inspect last year's damage sites near Gogi Bridge and some parts of Cheoin-gu."
He also stated, "This year's heatwave is expected to be more severe than last year," and urged, "Please maintain cooling shelters and do not neglect support for cooling appliances to prevent harm to vulnerable groups and the elderly."
Furthermore, he emphasized, "Safety is more important than ever. When emergencies occur, it is necessary to recheck whether public officials working on high floors have properly learned how to respond and whether the office is well equipped with emergency facilities." He added, "Please organize an emergency response manual for employees and ensure that everyone is familiar with it."
In particular, he noted, "In Gyeongsangbuk-do, there was an accident where a child died after being trapped under a swing in a playground, and recently, a mechanical parking lot has had issues because it could not support the weight of electric vehicles. In nearby Suwon, there have been cases where apartment exterior walls fell and damaged vehicles." He urged, "Since safety accidents are a risk everywhere, all departments should pay attention and not neglect preliminary inspections."
