‘PGA star’ Kim Joo-hyung finished in the ‘Top 10’ at a major tournament.

On the 18th (local time), Kim Joo-hyung recorded 1-under par in the 4th round of the 123rd US Open (total prize money $20 million), the third major of the 2022/2023 PGA Tour season, held at the North Course of Los Angeles Country Club in California, USA (par 70, 7,423 yards), finishing tied for 8th place (4-under par 276). This surpassed his previous best major finish of tied 16th at the Masters in April.

Starting tied for 9th place, 7 strokes behind the leader, Kim carded five birdies, two bogeys, and one double bogey. In the first seven holes, he exchanged two birdies for two bogeys without reducing his score, but surged up the leaderboard with birdies on holes 8 and 11. However, a tee shot error on the 17th hole (par 4) led to struggles in the rough and a double bogey, which was unfortunate. Kim secured a valuable birdie on the final 18th hole (par 4) to secure his place in the ‘Top 10’.

Kim Joo-hyung has entered the ‘Top 10’ five times this season, including his victory at the Shriners Children’s Open last October. Most notably, he bounced back after consecutive missed cuts at recent major tournaments?the PGA Championship and the prestigious Memorial Tournament.

World No. 32 Wyndham Clark (USA) shot even par to claim his first major championship with a 10-under par 270. This was his second career win following last month’s Wells Fargo Championship, earning $3.6 million (approximately 4.6 billion KRW) in prize money. Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), who was aiming for his fifth major title, finished as runner-up by one stroke at 9-under par 271.

Scottie Scheffler finished 3rd (7-under par 273), Cameron Smith (Australia) 4th (6-under par 274), and Ricky Fowler (USA) and Lee Min-woo (Australia) tied for 5th (5-under par 275). Masters champion Jon Rahm (Spain) tied for 10th (3-under par 277), and PGA Championship winner Brooks Koepka (USA) tied for 17th (1-under par 279). Kim Si-woo lost 4 strokes with two birdies, four bogeys, and one double bogey, finishing tied for 39th (4-over par 284).
